R. Nichols Excavating, Inc. was established in the late 1970's by founder Roger Nichols. At that time Roger had a backhoe and pickup truck; and, as he was unable to afford a trailer or fuel tank, he hauled the backhoe around town to various jobs and carried fuel in gerry cans. After a couple of years, he purchased a small dump truck, bought a trailer, and hired his first employee. Up until that point, Roger was a one-man pipe crew and only did wet utilities. Years later, though, he expanded to also acquire site work. Roger says his success is due largely in part to his amazing employees. In 2013 he stopped doing site work and returned to his sole focus of wet utilities. The company currently has 40 employees and is continually growing. In 2015 Roger expanded the company even further by taking on some investors. Recently, he has stepped away from the position as company President and has moved into the role of Chairman of the Board.
